Battle Boats privacy policy
Effective 4 November 2026.
The short version
Battle Boats, on iPhone and Android, has no sign-up, no ads, no in-app purchases and no tracking. To play online it uses an anonymous account, and on iPhone, if you are signed in to Game Center, it links that account to your Game Center player. It also sends usage stats and crash reports, which you can turn off at any time. It never asks for your email, contacts, location or photos.
Playing online
An anonymous account. The game makes a random account ID on your phone. The first time you play online, our server stores it with a random sign-in key (we keep only a scrambled copy of the key).
Game Center (iPhone). If you are signed in to Game Center, the game sends the player ID Game Center gives our games and your Game Center nickname. We check the ID with Apple and link it to your account, so your progress can follow you to a new phone. Your nickname is shown to the other captains in your battles. If you are not signed in, and on Android, you get a random captain name instead.
Your progress. The server keeps your progress so it cannot be lost or faked: your rank, coins, upgrades, ships and parts, how many battles you have played, when you last played, and the results of your online battles.
During a battle, your moves go to the server and on to the other players in that battle. There is no chat.
Usage stats and crash reports
The game sends usage stats and crash reports so we can see which parts of the game work, fix crashes and balance the battles. This is on by default, and you can turn it off (see below).
What is collected. When battles start and end, with the mode, ship, sea and starter you chose, whether you won or your place, how long it lasted and how much health you had left; tutorial steps; how long you waited for an online battle; rank-ups, coins earned and spent, and upgrades, parts and salvage you choose; and errors in the game's code. If the game crashes, we get a crash report with the technical state of the game at that moment. With both we get basic details about your device: model, operating system version, game version, language, memory and battery level. Google also creates random IDs for this install of the game (on Android, this includes Google's app set ID) and works out your approximate location (for example, your country or region) from your IP address.
What is linked to your account. Crash reports and code errors carry your anonymous account ID, so we can match a crash to what the server saw. Usage stats do not. None of it includes your Game Center nickname or anything else that names you.
No tracking. The game does not use or collect your advertising ID (on iPhone it does not use the Advertising Identifier or ask to track you; on Android the advertising ID permission is removed and its collection is switched off). We do not use this data to track you across other companies' apps and websites, and we do not use it for advertising or share it with anyone else.
Who handles it. The stats and crash reports are collected with Google Firebase (Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics). Google acts as our processor.
How long we keep it. Usage stats are kept for up to 14 months and crash reports for up to 90 days.
How to turn it off. Open Settings in the game and switch off Usage data. Collection stops straight away and stays off the next time you open the game. Turning it off does not change how the game works.
Where it is stored
Online accounts and progress are stored on our game server, hosted by DigitalOcean in a UK data centre. Like any internet service, the server sees your IP address when the game connects. Its web logs record IP addresses for a short time and are overwritten as they fill; the game's own logs record account IDs (never names) and are deleted after 90 days. We back up accounts each night and keep 14 nights of backups.
We do not sell or share data with anyone else, and we do not use it for advertising.
On your phone
Your progress and settings are saved on your phone. They are deleted when you delete the game.
Deleting your data
Open Settings in the game and tap Delete my online data. Your account, progress and Game Center link are removed from our server straight away, and from our backups within 14 days. To have usage stats removed as well, email us.
Children
Battle Boats is a general audience game. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and it has no chat and no in-app purchases.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold, and ask us to correct or delete it. Email us and we will help you find your records. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
